Sozialforschungsstelle Dortmund is a centre of applied social research with a thematic focus on labour and (social) innovation.
14.09.2021 – Dortmund entered the race for the iCapital Award this year with the title "INNOVATION NEXT DOOR - Future from the Neighbourhood", presenting the city's innovation model with its wide range of social, sustainable and technology-oriented projects and strategic approaches. Among them are two projects of the Social Research Centre. One is iResilience: Social innovations and smart city infrastructures for the resilient city of the future (iRes, funded by the BMBF programme Zukunftsstadt) and T-Factor: Participatory Futures - Co-creating cities with temporary urbanism (funded by an EU Horizon2020 Innovation Action).
20.08.2021 – The Evolving Regions project has been given the opportunity to present itself and its core topic - individual climate adaptation strategies tailored to the regions - in an article in the Welt am Sonntag. The basis for this was the meeting of representatives of the Social Research Centre Dortmund, Anja Berg (regional promoter of the district of Soest), Frank Hockelmann (district of Soest), Rainer Wolf (city of Soest) and Birgit Specovius (city of Lippstadt) with the journalist Céline Lauer.
01.07.2021 – With Social Art through the Pandemic: Theatre Premiere and International Meeting in Porto, a virtual project visit by students of the TU Dortmund University and an Award in Barcelona in the EU Project ArtE - The Art of Employability.
28.06.2021 – The SOCIALinNOVA-HUB is funded by the European Union with 2.5 million euros. The funding also opens new perspectives for European cooperation for the university.
28.06.2021 – Last Wednesday (16 June 21) a delegation of the LIFE project Evolving Regions presented the project at the "Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum - energy efficiency finance market place". Organized by the European Commission's Directorates-Generals for Energy and Climate Action and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), a total of 44 projects were presented to representatives of the Covenant of Mayors Initiative, investors and representatives of the European Commission.
28.06.2021 – On Tuesday, June 15, 2021 Katharina Schrot presented the project Evolving Regions at the Klima.Werkstatt of KlimaDiskurs.NRW e.V.. Under the title "Climate Impacts and Climate Adaptation in NRW", decision makers from politics, civil society, economy and science came together to discuss relevant topics of climate adaptation and resulting challenges for municipalities.
08.06.2021 – The SISCODE project has produced a free online seminar that looks at the different aspects of co-creation and provides information on the benefits of public engagement for policymaking.
01.06.2021 – In his presentation in the session “Social Innovation for Community Health Resilience under Climate Change” at the European Social Economy Summit (26 - 27 May 2021 | Digital Conference broadcasted from Mannheim) sfs-director Jürgen Howaldt shared his view on the role of social innovation to improve urban resilience to climate changes.
01.06.2021 – On 8 June, the T-Factor project will present the results of the Comparative Case Study during a public online event. The event highlights the selected T-Factor Advanced Case Studies as well as further examples of successful meanwhile uses in European urban regeneration processes.
25.05.2021 – Interested practitioners can now read about how labour market integration with Social Art works in three brochures - and apply it themselves: The results of the European project have been practically prepared in the form of a collection of tools in five different languages and are now available for Download.
11.05.2021 – Based on socio-technical system approaches, empirical research and practical experience, Workplace Innovation is a tradition-rich work design concept on european level. Scientists from sfs contribute in many cooperation projects own conceptual approaches and empirical results to this perspective. Against the background leading european scholars and promoters of the WPI concept highlight in this book aspects of leadership in context of digitalisation.
11.05.2021 – How can European youth work remain innovative and sustainable, despite the pandemic? This question is addressed in the project "ViSAS - Virtual Social Art Stage" with a transformation of artistic methods into the digital space. The Erasmus+ project is scientifically monitored by sfs researchers Kerstin Guhlemann and Christine Best and started in April with an online kick-off event.
03.05.2021 – Starting today, on 3-7 May 2021, the final conference of the SISCODE project will take place under the title "Co-creating human-centred policies - for a better Europe". During five mornings, results of the project will be presented and a joint manifesto for "Future Policy Making" will be developed. Registration is open until the last day of the conference.
30.04.2021 – Over the past three years, SISCODE has been working alongside two other Horizon 2020 funded projects that are also looking at co-creation: SCALINGS and LIV:IN. As all three projects are ending and will come together again in a panel session at the ISPIM Innovation Conference on June 23rd to share their learnings and to generate a discussion about specific elements of co-creation generated from their distinct empirical material, while identifying the continuing challenges and opportunities seen in this powerful concept.
30.04.2021 – During ESF’s new funding period 2021-2027, social innovation will be in the spotlight. A key part of “ESF Plus”, as the new seven-year framework is named, will be the “EU Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI)”. EaSI is supposed to promote a high level of quality and sustainable employment, guarantee adequate and decent social protection, combat social exclusion and poverty, and improve working conditions through social innovations. The German consortium as a part of a large international network, will start its work for these goals in May 2021 with the participation of the sfs.
