Quality of Work

A Policy Review of European Founded Socioeconomic Research Projects

For some years now, demands for "better jobs" and for more "quality" in work have become prominent in European policy debates. Since 2003, (besides the issues of full employment and social cohesion), improving quality at work has been one of the three overarching objectives of the common guidelines for the employment policies of the Member States within the European Employment Strategy (EES). In addition to conclusions for further research, the review summarises the results and policy implications of a selection of 25 projects and outlines their relevance to the European policy in this field. The projects’ findings are arranged into four major subjects with relevance to the political as well as to the scientific discussion: labour market flexibility; the organisation of work; learning, knowledge, and change competencies; and access to the labour market, equality and inclusion.
